Our goal is to showcase artisans from different countries while empowering and informing women about global issues and those who paved the way before us. Each month we feature a charity with an extraordinary everyday woman leading or associated with the cause.
This month is Bianca Jagger
Bianca Jagger
Human Rights Activist & Style Icon
Ladies! This month’s Featured Female Empowerment Muse (FFEM) is a ridiculous combination of brains, balls, beauty, rock and roll, elegance, and class. She was the It Girl of the 70’s and Humanitarian of today, the incomparable Ms. Bianca Jagger.
Quick early snapshot
With her Nicaraguan roots and her drive to be anything but ordinary, young Bianca received a scholarship to study political science in France at the Paris Institute of Political Studies. (Insert finger snaps because Bianca did not come to play). Fast forward to the 1970’s which might as well have been the decade of Bianca. She was a style icon and reigning queen of Studio 54. Catching the eye of Rolling Stone frontman, Mick Jagger, she would be his one and only wife (they divorced some years later). Alright Mick that is the only airtime you get in this piece because Bianca is the lead here my dear.
Jetsetter, party goer, mom, actress, and fashion legend, Bianca was fully living the dream. I mean she road into Studio 54 on a white horse for her 32nd birthday like it was nothing. As the smoke of the club wore off our girl was called to something greater. We all have that shift where we know it’s time to make a change, and that moment for Bianca was in 1981. As part of the US Congressional delegation stationed in Honduras, Bianca and the rest of the 40 staff witnessed a raid. Armed with nothing but cameras (so fitting for our fashionista and we can jest because it all ended well) they began to document the refugees captured at gunpoint, with Bianca yelling, “you will have to kill us all!” The firing squad read the room and let the captives go. What?! Nobody puts Bianca in a corner. Come on now, if that is not the definition of bad ass lady balls, I don’t what is.
Bianca used those formative years to build her best self. She continued her activism and won several awards for her social work. Her causes are as vast as her enviable wardrobe. From human rights to ending violence against women and girls, addressing the threat of climate change, and supporting the rights of indigenous peoples and future generations - her causes come together under the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation where she is the Founder and Chair. She is also a Council of Europe Goodwill Ambassador, and a member of the Executive Director's Leadership Council of Amnesty International.
Ms. Bianca Jagger - we are slow clapping your come up and appreciate your audacity to be bold in your activism, while beautifully quaffed in the front row at the Dior Paris Fashion Week show. #FrontWoman
